sneakText

A little mobile tool I wrote as an exercise to try out some techniques. Decided to follow through and finish it up into a complete application for Windows XP and Windows Mobile.

Basically, this app is useful to secure pretty much any simple text you can think of – whether it’s that intimate SMS to your partner, the message you’re about to pass across the classroom or even just a private reminder note for yourself. Enter the text into the box, type a codeword and hit the button.

NEW! sneakText is now available for iPhone as well as Windows XP/Vista/Win7 and Windows Mobile. See the links below :)

Get sneaktext on the iTunes App Store (now available FREE!)

Download (Windows Mobile 5.0 or later, CAB 16kB) - Requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0 or later

Download (Win32 .msi, 266KB)

Instructions for installing cab files on Windows Mobile:
- Connect PDA to your PC via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista)
- Navigate to your device’s \ or \Storage Card folder
- Copy the cab file to your device

- On your device, open File Explorer and navigate to where you saved the cab file
- Tap it once to execute it
- Follow the installer steps

That’s it! Afterwards you will find sneakText 1.0 in your Start Menu or Programs folder.

Hallo i am from Germany, sorry for my english.
Sneaktext is a very nice tool.

In practice i think ist good when there is a button to copy the sneakted text in the Clippboard, because my keyboard has no copy key.

Another fine idea is to save keywords for chois in a drop down field, so you can organice several codewords for several contacts.

Wish you a nice time and thanks for programming.

    Greetings Dirk

Hey, the latest version of Sneaktext available on this blog has a copy button.

For Sneaktext, codewords are not remembered by design – this way, your SMS messages are protected even if your phone is stolen – YOU need to input the codeword every time, otherwise anybody could just decode your messages if they stole your phone :)

Thanks for using it, and hope you enjoy it! :)

I press “sneak it”, & it says an error occurred, check you’ve entered code word (yes) & no illegal characters, (no). Why is it not working? :-(

Hey, which version are you referring to? There’s been a recurring bug in the Windows desktop version which I’m still trying to trace, but for your convenience here are all the allowed characters in one place:

      abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ01234567890?!

(space is also allowed, it’s on the end :p)

If you have anything other than those characters in there, it will fail with the error you posted. Could you reply back and tell me which version you’re using? (Windows, Windows Mobile or iPhone?)

Hey love this app sooo much – any plans for a widget (or equal) version for Mac OSX?

Even a web based version would be great – all the other web versions are easy and obvbious to crack OR only allow codes made up of numbers.

  7. Terrific Work, love the app! I came across your app on the app store and Ill be adding it to my directory as soon as I post my future updates. Hopefully you could get a few downloads from it.
